There’s been a lot of talk about food on the website lately (in case you missed it, December was our annual food issue).
And while the Spazz Dad household may be filled with culinary simpletons, there are still some meals-treats-snacks that get a lot of our attention. While I’d like to write that their awesomeness is 100 percent guaranteed, I fully realize that I may be more easily pleased than more refined palates.
Either way, have at.
+ Pot Roast, Modern Café. While it may not feel like winter quite yet it is officially pot roast season. So, get some. This tender chunk of meat is served with creamy potatoes and roasted root veggies and is the best I’ve had (other than my mom’s). 337 13th NE, Mpls, moderncafeminneapolis.com
+ Salted Caramel, Izzy’s Ice Cream. Do I really need to write any more than those two words? Salt and caramel. Booya. 2034 Marshall Ave., St. Paul, izzysicecream.com
+ Fulton Flat Bread, Broder’s Deli. This large sheet of cracker thin bread is sprinkled with salt and cracked pepper and is perfect when brushed with olive oil and topped with tomatoes and cheese then broiled. Simple and easy and you don’t even have to feel bad when you inevitably find yourself eating the entire sheet. At least I don’t. 2308 W. 50th St, Mpls, broders.com
+ Pulled Chicken with legendary Espresso BBQ sauce, Q Fanatic BBQ Grill. The road trip to this family-owned and operated BBQ spot is well worth the gas. I would never think the combination of espresso and roasted jalapenos would taste good. But, oh man. The combo of the sauce with the moist and hickory smoked chicken was unbelievable. 180 Miller Rd., Champlin, qfanatic.com
+ Breakfast for dinner, Spazz Dad Household. Growing up in a Catholic household, this was my family’s tradition during lent when we couldn’t eat meat. Now, that I’m a grown-ass man with a kid of my own I have activated it on a weekly basis with my son. We have pancakes, bacon, hash browns, and apples for dinner. It is awesome. Available only by special invitation.
