Adam Braun and Daisy Mitchell looked at several locations before deciding on 414 Penn Avenue S. in Minneapolis, a former auto-shop turned dry cleaners and now turned gift and home décor store in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood.
“Bryn Mawr has a strong, connected community that embraces creative endeavors,” says Mitchell.
Braun and Mitchell met in 2007 while working at an educational non-profit organization and realized that their two distinct and different backgrounds (his is in media, theater, and operations, hers in art, design, and management) would give them a fresh aesthetic unique to the Twin Cities.
The name of the pair’s store is Honeyshine, and the products they carry are a combination of unique and beautiful gift and home items like jewelry, art, candles, cufflinks, and consignment furniture.
The end result is a “combination of modern, vintage, contemporary and unusual items pulled together with a fresh but lived-in vibe,” says Braun.
If what you see inside of their scrappy and elegant space catches your eye, you have the option of hiring them for a design consultation. Braun and Mitchell will work with your existing space and objects so you don’t have to worry about knocking down any walls to create a new look and feel.
“Our design process reconsiders color, repurposes your existing objects and sources new items to add to your space,” says Braun. “Our ultimate goal is to create fresh spaces that feel familiar without having to spend a lot of money.”
Honeyshine, 414 Penn Ave. S, Mpls, is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Their grand opening event, which runs Nov. 4 to Nov. 6, will feature 10 percent off all items in the store. Learn more at honeyshine.net.
