"Dying To Make It" serves as a showcase for a talented group of local musicians, but offers a confusing storyline

As a showcase for musical abilities, Dying To Make It works wonders. As a vehicle for a great story, though, this original rock opera comes up a little short.

The grassroots-funded production, the brainchild of local musician Robb Schwartz that premiered at the Southern Theatre earlier this month, was filled with catchy and well-executed rock offerings, ranging from hard rock to twang-rock to the more groovy sounds of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

The event, taking place at The Fine Line Music Cafe, is a fundraiser for Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit working to end childhood hunger by 2015.

Minnesota Public Radio's "Daily Circuit" looks to bring conversation to the audience on their home turf

There’s a new news show in town.

Minnesota Public Radio on Tuesday launched “The Daily Circuit,” a hip, social media-savvy addition to MPR’s already impressive line-up of news and information programs. The show is led by Kerri Miller, Tom Weber and Stephanie Curtis, and replaces Gary Eichten’s “Midmorning” program, which came to a close in January.

Local literati sisters Hazel & Wren have built a strong online writing community through their website, hazelandwren.com, which features a unique online open mic that allows writers to share their work.

Now, for the first time, the sisters are bringing their virtual world to an actual stage.
