Eleven designers, one show: That’s the simple, yet significant concept behind “Twelve,” this year’s University of Minnesota Senior Fashion Show.
The event, entering its 44th year, is completely student run, down to every innovative garment and production detail. Senior designers are broken up into committees, each of which manages arduous tasks including promotions, marketing, sales and production particulars.
Although the eleven designers must collaborate to form a cohesive, stunning show, their collections run the gamut of style—from simple silhouettes to gothic-inspired structure.
“The show itself has a main theme – it’s clean, modern and simple, yet elegant,” says Gabby Goetz, senior designer and co-chair of the promotion committee with designer Laura Van Riper. “But the designers’ styles really vary this year.”
After six months of planning, “Twelve” will finally hit the catwalk on Saturday night and showcase between four and six looks per designer, plus an additional one to two looks for participating sophomores and juniors.
Despite, “Twelve’s” collegiate planning team, expect a professional level, industry-focused show that would appeal to fashion fans on campus and off.
“It’s going to look so professional, that the only way you know it’s a student event is because it says The College of Art and Design,” says Van Riper.
+ “Twelve,” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Rapson Hall Courtyard, University of Minnesota, 89 Church St. Southeast. Tickets are $20, general, $10, balcony, and $50, VIP. For more information visit fashionshow.design.umn.edu.
