A Skyway Scavenger Hunt

METRO’s November issue takes an in-depth look at the Minneapolis and St. Paul skyways. But as our editor Chris Clayton, who spent eight hours walking the Minneapolis skyway will testify, true understanding of this climate-controlled network comes only through first-hand experience.
It’s in that spirit that we invite you to partake in METRO’s inaugural Skyway Scavenger Hunt. Answer the following questions by reading our collection of skyway features, or by venturing out into the skyway on your own. For help, you can use our printable skyway maps and our scavenger hunt checklist.
Submit your answers to either the Minneapolis or St. Paul questions to giveaways@metromag.com by Friday, Dec. 2 for a chance to win a year-long subscription to METRO.
We’ll pick one winner from Minneapolis and one winner from St. Paul.
Minneapolis
- Amy’s Classic Confections in the Northstar Center holds the largest gummy bear available in the Minneapolis skyway. How much does this gummy creature weigh?
- Your next stop takes you to some of the sweetest treats in the sky. Travel to the Classic Cookie Company and meet the owner known as “The Boss” (no, not Bruce, but John). Take a quick pic with John and submit it with your answers, and be sure to ask for a free cookie courtesy of The Boss himself.
- The IDS tower’s Crystal Court can be described as the heart of the Minneapolis skyway. The award-winning space features a stunning 105-foot falling fountain and numerous Black Olive Trees. Approximately how many trees surround the falling fountain?
- History was made when Premium Quality Coin broke the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest coin mural in 2006. What do the perfectly placed pennies depict?
- The first Minneapolis skyway was built in 1962 by Minneapolis businessman Leslie Park and his architect partner Edward Baker (hint hint). Today that original structure is gone, however its replacement was built in 1963. Which two buildings does this historic Minneapolis landmark connect?
St Paul
- Bienvenue a la Maison Darras! Transport yourself to the City of Light at Maison Darras, St. Paul skyway’s only French café. While there are pastries aplenty, name the ingredients inside of one of their famed paninis. Then, with chocolate croissant in hand, find the name of the financial group located just around the corner. Vous êtes magnifique!
- Need a lunch date with Xenu? Or maybe just a Turkey Tom sub? What sandwich shop and infamous church are neighbors?
- Grab a hearty breakfast (as early as 6:30 a.m.!) at The Four Inns. After you’re full from sausage and eggs, find out where the name “The Four Inns” comes from and since what year have they been making bellies burst?
- It’s a bazaar! It’s a garage sale! No, it’s Roberts’ on the Skyway! This store is a consignment mish-mash, the perfect place for anyone who needs a lamp, a sofa, or a pair of sneakers. Robert’s isn’t all about second-class offerings, though. What famous fair treat is also sold here? Don’t bother looking on the internet for this answer, because this shop is purely old school.
- Unleash your inner-Michael Phelps and find the winsome water fountain next to Wells Fargo Place. Take a photo featuring your best Olympic stance and submit it with your answers.
