The purtiest newbie at the Walker is not its recently revamped web site (though it is rather attractive, and welcome proof that our finest art space is moving deeper into the realm of content creation). That honor goes to The Lady Slipper—a refreshing winter drink available for a limited time in the museum’s lovely dining nook, Gather.

Dreamed up by bartender Josh Riegert and loosely inspired by METRO (it must be all the red we use on our covers), the cocktail looks like a sugar bomb on paper but is actually quite nuanced. Its flavors fall like dominoes: First comes the sweetness (thanks to Chambord and Cointreau), which is immediately cut by the bitterness of the cranberry juice. The last taste is our favorite: a dry, effervescent hit of Prosecco.

Mention that you read about The Lady Slipper in METRO and you’ll get a nifty little discount. And after you’ve basked in the drink’s loveliness, make it at home following these simple directions:

  • 1.5 oz. Astoria Lounge Prosecco
  • 1.5 oz. Stoli White
  • Pomegranik Vodka
  • 1/4 oz.  Chambord
  • 1/4 oz. Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz. cranberry juice
  1. Place all ingredients in shaker with 1 scoop of ice.
  2. Shake well and strain into a chilled martini glass.
  3. Garnish with a twist of lime.
