Move It!
By Jason Young 6/15/09 8:32 PM

Not everyone is blessed with the motivation to exercise, even though there are plenty of reasons as to why we should. Weight loss, looking younger, being healthier, feeling energized, reducing stress, a better libido and endorphins—the list goes on. Give me a good reason why not to!

Unfortunately, though, we usually don’t stick with exercise programs long enough to see those kind results that will bring motivation to the table. But take it from me, preparation and planning equal success. We must reinforce working out with positives. Longevity is a lifestyle, not a fad. Make a set schedule for fitness and healthy mealtimes. Other daily activities can be scheduled around it. It has to be priority, or it leads to procrastination.

How you might ask? Make it a social time with current friends, or make some new friends. Incorporate fun activities or sports that you enjoy, such a disc golf or basketball. Make sure that family time is spent moving, not sitting. Post motivational pictures or reminders in areas that you might fail in your goals, such as the kitchen. Reward when deserved, or after a great week.

Don’t believe your excuses, I have heard them all. Plain and simple, you have one body, so take care of it!—Jason Young is the owner of YoungQuest Fitness and former Mr. Minnesota 1998.
