So you think you’re funny. Or maybe your friends do. But HOW funny? Or more importantly, WHAT KIND of funny?
Dictionary.com’s definition of funny is “1. Providing fun; causing amusement or laughter; amusing; comical: a funny remark; a funny person.”
But funny can also warrant suspicion: “No funny stuff”—Nihilist, The Big Lebowski, or describe an unusual feeling: “It makes me feel kinda funny, like when I used to climb the rope in gym class.” —Garth Algar, Wayne’s World.
Some people take offense to being called funny: “I’m funny how? I mean, funny like I’m a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I’m here to amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny!?!?!? —Tommy DeVito, Goodfellas.
But when it comes to summing up comedy legend Scott Hansen's brand of funny, an employee at KQRS—where Hansen works as a guest host for the KQ Morning Show—said it best: “Scott is pee-your-pants funny. If you like peeing your pants, you’ll love him.”
Well, "If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis."—Old Lady, Billy Madison.
The bottom line: in any context or definition, Scott Hansen knows funny, is funny and can teach funny. Hansen, along with some of his pals, is teaching his craft through Comedy Tech, a series of comedy classes in his hometown at the Maple Grove Arts Center. Although his Standup Comedy for Chickens class and his Extremely Serious Comedy Workshop are filled up, he’ll be offering Round 2 of ESCW, among plenty of other classes, later this summer/early fall. Here' s the lineup:
