Congrats, Mitch Underhill
By Laura Haraldson 6/10/09 2:20 PM

It's weird to think about fresh powder in the middle of June, though my Montana-based brother-in-law assures me he just camped in snow this past weekend. For the less adventuresome among us, it's fun to garner some inspiration from a teenage skiing phenom in our midst.

Featured on the cover of the December 2008 issue of Plymouth Magazine, Mitchell Underhill was prepping for the Junior Olympics when last we spoke. Updates were coming in regarding his successes while I was embarking on my first awkward weeks of motherhood in mid-March, but I wanted to share some of the highlights anyway:

> Mitchell placed third in downhill at the Junior Olympics in Vail, Colo.
> He took second in Slalom (his favorite competitive event), 6th in Super G and 11th in GS.
> As one of three boys who qualified for Whistler Cup World Championships in Whistler, B.C., he headed north in mid-April to represent the United States.
> The U.S. took first place in Mitchell's age category (14-15 years).
> The slopes were rough on Mitch, but in the slalom he rallied after a fall in his first run to place 10th after running 67th in his second attempt, a very impressive comeback in stormy conditions.

Thanks to Mitchell's mom, Pam, for keeping us in the loop, and congrats to Mitchell from the entire staff at Plymouth Magazine.
