Fringe Benefits

What started as a flapper-esque trend this spring has exploded into a fall fashion must-have. But like most of-the-moment styles, fringe is tricky to pull off.

“Wear it as an accent unless you’re fearless,” says Delayna Sundberg, owner of Cliché boutique in Minneapolis. “I’ve seen lots of long black fringe clips that you add to your handbag or key ring to kind of rock them out, or on a necklace or earrings to embrace your inner Earth gal. Boots and heels with fringe will be in style for a long while.”

Keep in mind that it’s easy to go overboard on fringe—a major fashion no-no. “Don’t do head to toe in it,” Sundberg cautions. “In a stiff wind you could look like a fringe tornado.” She recommends sticking to accent pieces and accessories, adding, “No fringe denim or fringe leather pants! Ouch!”-—
