With your summer-workout wardrobe staying the same (well, until the clearance sales at least) it’s time to start considering what you’ll need when the weather gets cooler. Caution: just say “No” to a scrubby sweatshirt and sweatpants! With advice from local fashion designer Kaja Foat of Foat Design Studio in Minneapolis we have some tips that will keep you warm and chic this fall.

Layering is essential when it comes to utilizing warm-weather clothes for the chilly seasons. “It’s the foundation of the Foat line,” says Kaja. Some of her favorite things to pair together include Capri pants with leg warmers, shorts with leggings, shirts or tanks with arm warmers and tanks with a yoga wrap or a shrug.

Color isn’t something to shy away from even if cooler weather is headed our way. There’s no need to be drab in all black, brown, grey or blue. Kaja says the Foat line is never short on color, raving that the studio has a rainbow-like quality with all the colors and textures available. She believes people shouldn’t feel the need to hide in drab, boring or baggie clothes. This is why Kaja brings a  “funky/sexiness to all the items available.”

Fit is crucial no matter the clothing item or season. No one wants to constantly be pulling up a pair of pants while on the treadmill or adjusting an uncomfortable shirt in downward facing dog. “If people feel good in their workout clothes I think they’re going to put more effort into their exercise,” says Kaja.
