Loring Park Summer Music & Movies have become a summertime staple.
Ever noticed how everything--even the most mundane of activities--is enhanced simply by displacing it outdoors? Think about it. How much more fun is dinner when it’s a picnic? What about reading a book? Fornicating? See where I’m driving this boat? (If not, the headline should have been a dead giveaway): Movies. Outdoors. The perfect end to an idyllic, balmy Midwestern summer evening is curling up beneath the stars and experiencing a film as nature intended it. Here now are your options for movies in the park this summer. Oh yeah, and admission's free!

Cinema and Civics

The Stevens Square Community Organization has hosted an outdoor film screening series of some incarnation in Stevens Square Park for the past fourteen years. Since 2005, it’s been Cinema & Civics, a weekly series that incorporates “socially pertinent activities and discussions” in addition to live music and a movie. Depending on the event, various guest speakers will engage in dialogue pertaining to the evening’s chosen topic prior to the night's entertainment. Visit cinemaandcivics.org for a regularly updated schedule.
