Now in its 11th year, this annual open-studio sale at the always-thriving Northrup King features more than 100 of the area’s top artists and crafters, all in one huge former seed warehouse. The weekend-long event is dizzying in its multitude of gift options. Make sure to take in one of several live painting, printing and weaving demonstrations taking place throughout the building.

And because many of the goods will be on sale, pick something up for yourself while you’re at it.

Housed in gloriously modern digs designed by local super-architect James Dayton, this westside institution is one of the area’s best-kept visual arts secrets, creating community with its funky arts classes (welding anyone?) and hosting quality juried art shows such as this. Holiday sale highlights include Edina-based Harriet Campe’s exquisite pottery and ruggedly beautiful stoneware by Lowertown’s Peter Jadoonath.

Tucked into the back of a salon in St. Paul’s Selby-Dale neighborhood, Gallery 526 is a little gem of an art space featuring an eclectic mix of local artwork (everything from encaustic paintings to rock sculptures). Run by Stephen Trevino, who happens to be a member of METRO’s homes team, the gallery’s holiday events feature music, food and work by such artists as glass master Gary Brown (12/13) and jeweler Daphnae Koop (12/6).
