Trying to plan out your St. Patrick’s Day can seem like a daunting task, so daunting that you might give up and spend the day alone in your basement wearing a “Kiss Me I’m Irish” button and watching P.S I Love You (hey, it was filmed in Ireland). But now, you have no excuse, because METRO is coming to the rescue with a guide to all things Irish happening in the Twin Cities leading up to and on St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, March 17. 100% Irish 5K
Saturday, March 14
Marathon Sports and Finnegan’s present the 100% Irish 5K and 10 mile runs on Saturday beginning at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. Register online or bring cash and register race. Following the race, participants will be able to refuel with food and some Finnegan’s at the bandshell tent party. Wear your race shirt later in the day and head over to the Finnegan’s party at Stella’s for some runner’s specials.

Day of Irish Dance

If you cannot make it to the Landmark on the big day, definitely check out the Irish Music and Dance Association’s 7th Annual Day of Irish Dance on Sunday. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. performers will take over the main stage, Weyerhaeuser Auditorium and the Tea Room for a day full of traditional Irish music and dance performances.

Monday, March 16
Gaelic Storm takes the stage at the Guthrie Theater and performs songs from their chart topping 7th album, What’s the Rumpus? The five-piece Irish band is known for their combination of traditional Celtic melodies and unique world rhythms. Parade 101
St. Paul’s 43rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Beginning at noon, the 43rd Annual St. Paul St. Patrick’s Day Parade starts at Fourth and Sibley, continuing west until it ends at Rice Park. The parade is sure to be a great event to bring the family to, and afterwards head over to the Landmark Center for the Irish Music and Dance Association’s 28th Annual St. Patrick’s Day event. Live Celtic music, dancing, crafts, Irish cuisine and authentic vendors make this event one of St. Paul’s best traditions. We highly recommend checking out the Scoil na dTri dancers in the Landmark atrium at 1:45 p.m. This exceptional local Irish dance academy always puts on a performance so good, that Riverdance is put to shame.

Minneapolis St. Patrick’s Day Parade
One of the nice things about living in the Twin Cities is that usually we get a double dose of special events and St. Patrick’s Day parades are no exception. The Minneapolis St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at 13th and Nicollet Mall, making its way up to 5th Street. The parade dates back to 1969 when it began as a short caravan between two local pubs, things are a little different today, but the parade is still a great tradition. Be sure to stop at the parade after party, The Blarney Blast, at the Fine Line Music Café. Avoid paying a cover charge by getting your official Minneapolis St. Patrick’s Day Association button and shamrock bead set ahead of time. Sweet Colleens
This Minneapolis based five-piece Celtic roots band, The Sweet Colleens, have become a local favorite. The high-energy band plays a mix of “Celtic folk-rock and alt. country/Americana, with Cajun and Caribbean seasonings.” Whoa. See them rock out in The Happy Gnome’s heated tent at 7 p.m.
Erin Rogue
This local Celtic band will be just about everywhere on St. Patrick’s Day. Erin Rogue will take the stage at both Kieran’s Irish Pub and Keegan’s Irish Pub and also will also be performing at the Irish Music and Dance Association’s celebration at the Landmark Center.

O’Gara’s 68th Anniversary and St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
O’Gara’s looks like it will be the place to be this St. Patrick’s Day, as it is also their 68th Anniversary. Live entertainment will begin at 3:30 p.m. with music till 1 a.m. in the O’Gara’s Garage.
If you are looking for some great food and drink specials, We recommend heading to O’Gara’s for some great deals Tuesday, March 10 – Monday, March 16. Their anniversary menu includes $1.95 fish and chips and $.75 Jameson drinks on select days.
