Little Szechuan

When Little Szechuan emerged on the scene in 2007, it was a smashing success from the get-go, with lines stretching out the door on Saturday nights. That popularity shows no signs of waning, and with consistent, flavorful plates that are widely accepted as the most authentic Szechuan dishes in the area, we’re not surprised. And the eatery seems to have wisely ditched the black “gringo” menu, so you don’t even have to worry about needing to request the authentic Szechuan menu anymore. —Tammy Sproule Kaplan
1. Ma Po Tofu ($9.95)
Soft chunks of stewed tofu and fermented black beans in a spicy chili oil laced with lots of dried black chili peppers make this dish all about being comforted and a little bit surprised by heat at the same time.

2. Crispy Spicy Chicken ($10.95)
These little pieces of chicken are fried so crisp and sticky (in a good way) that you won’t be able to put down the chopsticks. The delightful dish is tossed with red bell peppers, green onions and dried black chili peppers that give it plenty of kick.

3. Stir-fried Pea Tips ($11.50)
With a buttery, garlicky finish, you might forget you’re eating a nutrient-rich green vegetable when you dive into these pea tips. The vibrant color, simplicity and crunchy texture are an ideal complement to the spicier, richer dishes at the table.
