When the wonderful celebration and intensity of the holiday season is over, winter can get, well, ugly. Without something to look forward to, your outlook can become a bit bleary. Save yourself, your body and your peace of mind by indulging this January—not the over-indulgence of food and drink you might have recently experienced, but the truly healthy, rewarding kind that you actually deserve: a series of spa services. We’ve collected some of the most relaxing—and in some cases hard-to-find—skin treatments, massages, aromatherapies and more to help you combat those Minnesota winter blues.

Arne Wellness Center
Arne Wellness Center is a chiropractic spa taking pride in services that “synergistically work together,” according to co-owner Bessie Lahoz-Arne. The troupe of experienced practioners provides hot stone massage, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture and cold laser therapy (for skin renewal, pain and inflammation management). Just when we could all use a little purification, they offer both physical (ear candling, footbath, foot reflexology and body wraps) and emotional detox (think Emotional Release Therapy, a simple process to remove emotional pain). Best-kept secret: The Arne Wellness Center is offering a special Sunday Day Spa exclusively for Plymouth Magazine readers. Attend an afternoon of healing from 1 to 4 p.m. January 10 or 24. Select five half-hour spa services from the list above for just $99. But hurry: Limit 10 per Sunday. Call 952.697.3100 for reservations. 12455 Ridgedale Dr. #201, Minnetonka; 952.697.3100; arnewellnesscenter.com

Christopher J Salon
Stellar hair care aside, Christopher J Salon offers a complete selection of both massage and nail services, and salon coordinator Jenny Rolff is excited about the newest service: the chipless manicure.
Featuring a new-to-us process, “gel manicures” extend the length of a manicure to two weeks (vs. a typical mani’s one-week lasting power). The process takes one hour, as it is a bit more involved than a traditional manicure, but the results are worth the pampering time. Best-kept secret: Regularly $45, Plymouth Magazine readers can nab this service this month for a cool $40. 2700 Annapolis Circle Suite F; 763.404.8606; www.christopherjsalon.com

Consultative Skincare
A medical spa featuring dermatological treatments (including BOTOX, collagen and microdermabrasion), Consultative Skincare offers the therapeutic and relaxing European Facial.
First, indulge in a full cleansing and exfoliation with products specifically chosen for your skin type. While you recline on a heated bed, a fine mist of steam envelops you as your back, shoulders and face are massaged. (The nitty gritty of the deal includes a pore-cleansing treatment with a bacteria-killing high frequency wand.) A masque is applied to calm, moisturize, firm and purify the skin. $80. 109 Bushaway Rd., Wayzata; 952.252.0050; consultativeskincare.com

LifeSpa at Life Time Fitness
Open to all (this might be the best-kept secret of all, as it includes non-members), LifeSpa and Salon nurtures the entire body. And the Detox Wrap is a great jumpstart to starting anew. A full-body mask (and scalp massage) uses a blend of brown seaweeds to activate the elimination of impurities—just in case you have any of those lying around after the holiday season (55 minutes is $90–100). Or try a purifying facial, customized to your specific cleansing, toning, exfoliation and extraction needs. The most deep-cleansing of these is the seaweed and oxygen mask, which works out congestion and provides a healthy glow, making it ideal for dull, dry or oily skin. This facial includes a scalp, face, neck and shoulder massage (55 minutes for $95–135). Best-kept secret: Attend a special event from 4 to 8 p.m. January 25 and receive mini services for just $25, plus take 25 percent off all retail purchases. 3600 Plymouth Blvd.; 763.509.0909; lifetimefitness.com

Mask Spa
These treatments cure what ails you and your winter-weary skin. The herbology body wrap is a physical and chemical exfoliate in one, in which a blend of Chinese herbs—containing alpha hydroxy acids—smoothes, re-texturizes, soothes and softens the skin (from $71). Our hands and feet often bear the brunt of winter’s drying forces; reward their efforts with the spa hand treatment manicure, a 45-minute pampering session for hands, arms and elbows, as well as complete nail care (from $30). Treat your feet to their hydrotherapy spa pedicure, with its relaxing soak, gentle exfoliation, foot and leg massage, and complete nail care (from $45). Best-kept secrets: Add the herbology hand treatment, an exfoliating and softening massage using Chinese herbs, to any mani for about $5 more, or the paraffin foot bath (warm paraffin wax applied over intensive moisturizer to restore hydration) to your pedi starting at an extra $10. 11012 Greenbrier Rd., Minnetonka; 952.545.0044; maskspa.com
