Travel: Hungry for Hungary?

When it comes to wine tours, “Hungary is a hidden gem,” says Jamison Bachrach, owner and principal agent of Wandering Puffin LLC, a Plymouth-based travel arranger who specializes in trips to Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Spain and Portugal.
The country boasts nearly 20 different wine-growing regions, with each producing its own special fruit, the most notable among them the wines of Tokaj-Hegyalja and Eger. “Hungary’s wine industry goes back to Roman times,” Bachrach says. “Unfortunately, two world wars and Communism squashed it for a long time. The world didn’t get to experience the country’s wines.”
The industry, however, is poised for a comeback, and Bachrach is on the cutting edge, leading American travelers on tasting tours through capital Budapest and beyond. Here’s a sampling of what Hungary has in store:
