TRY A BARGAIN TASTING MENU
Not all prix fixes are pricey. Four value tasting menus that matter.

Three courses, $30–40/person @ Heartland:
A recent “fauna” menu (that would be the meat-eater’s menu) at Heartland—the place in the Twin Cities to dine on haute Midwestern fare—featured duck consommé, a cassoulet of wild boar, veal, pork, sausage and white beans, and a dark chocolate mousse. [1806 St. Clair Ave., St. Paul; 651.699.3536]

8 tapas, $29/person @ Solera: Let the chef pick your small plates (everything from octopus ceviche to beef short ribs) at this tapas temple. [900 Hennepin Ave., Mpls.; 612.338.0062]

Four courses, $24.95/person @ Salut St. Paul
: In addition to the cheap Sunday Suppers at all Parasole restaurants, Salut St. Paul has rolled out First Tuesdays Tasting Menus—with an accompanying wine course for $14.95. Courses feature rustic French dishes with a twist, such as “deconstructed cassoulet.” [917 Grand Ave., St. Paul; 651.917.2345]

Four courses, $20/person @ Rinata
: Uptown’s newish Italian bistro lets you get your pasta on for cheap on Sundays when four courses go for $20. Its sister restaurant, al Vento, in south Minneapolis offers three courses for $20 on Tuesdays. [2451 Hennepin Ave. S., Mpls.; 612.374.8998 // 5001 34th Ave. S., Mpls.; 612.724.3009]
