Hope

For those of you have followed the story of my son in columns and blogs, here's an update: Something amazing is happening. For the past week, I've been witnessing the sort of transformation that I could only dream of for the past five years. Since Sunday it seems some powerful spirit guides, angels, his own deep voice that has been silenced -- whatever you want to call it -- have taken him in their grip, plucked him from the life of darkness and danger he's been living and put him on the road to transformation. I have watched him, sometimes in a matter of minutes, go from a little boy, terrified to navigate a world without drugs, to a man facing the moment with the courage of a warrior. It has been powerful to behold the battle that is taking place within his body, mind and spirit. I am full of hope, a scary thing for those of us who've lived with addiction. But I am getting better, too. I know this battle is ultimately his battle, out of my hands. He is now far away, taken into the fold of a group of sober young people, who are filling him with their stories of recovery, taking him to meetings and showing him a life that he almost lost before he even had it. Let that carry you along as you face your own challenges today...
