It’s official: High-waisted skirts are the must-have item of the season. Last night’s “Support Our Fashion” runway show by Cliché only reinforced the trend with almost half of the designers putting spins on the pencil cut. Wide belts, high heels and tucked-in blouses look best with the skirts. Save your boots and sweaters for this fall.



Variations on the high-waisted skirt include high-waisted pants and shorts, though I’m less a fan of those. If you’re going to rock the pants, however, make sure you get a wide leg cut, as they create the nicest shape.

Unfortunately, I must apologize to curvy girls everywhere, as this is yet another style that, like skinny jeans, doesn’t flatter womanly figures. Not all high-waisted skirts are pencil cut, however. Look for looser versions and A-lines that will give your thighs some breathing room.
