The runway was festooned by silk chiffon, lambskin and wool Saturday as over fifty models strutted down the catwalk donning the looks of the Twin Cities’ newest up-and-coming design talent. The University of Minnesota’s 42nd annual senior fashion show, Insight, showcased the final creations of 14 soon-to-be graduates of the design apparel program and what the fashion world has to look forward to.

While no two collections were alike, designers tailored and personalized each piece to connect to the life of the wearer and enhance the body form. Design inspiration was drawn from 1940s sportswear to 19th century industrialization and from Middle Eastern folk tale to World War II Paris.  The fashion extravaganza was truly one-of-a-kind with collections including office wear, avant-garde designs, theater costumes, sustainable clothing, and evening gowns - something for everyone to daydream about adding to their own closet.

Last minute hemming and safety pin fixes didn’t stand in the way of the designers’ most anticipated evening of their three-year experience.  Senior designer Jennafer Crammer said the dozens of helping hands kept stress levels low in front of one of the largest turnouts she has seen at the show.  With a packed house, or should we say hall, an attractive audience of over 1,200 students, local designers and industry professionals oohed and ahhed the night away making it an instant success.

Attendees weren’t the only ones itching to see the diverse array of fashion. Senior Emily Bryngelson, whose clothing line Tender Cuts can be found at local Cliché boutiques, had been looking forward to seeing all of the collections together and sharing her most rewarding moment with her design family.  “I’m already looking forward to coming back to next year’s show!” Bryngelson says.
