Something Good About Winter

Tomorrow is the closing weekend for the Mill City Farmers Market. I'll use it as full justification to head down there with the fam and consume all of the following: Chef Shack Indian-spiced donuts, hot apple cider, rhubarb muffins from Black Cat, a McDonner muffin and fresh-squeezed lemonade from Muddsucker's Coffee. Perhaps a couple of pumpkins and another bag of Honeycrisps from Ames Farm, too. And some chard or kale to blanch and freeze.

Here's a little pick-me-up, though. The recently-opened Local D'Lish is an enclosed store in the North Loop that will pick up where Mill City leaves off, as in, many of the Mill City vendors will sell meats, dairy, whatever produce gets us through the winter, teas, chocolates, breads from Bread, Coffee and Cake, etc, etc at this shop. Farmers from other markets, not just Mill City, will be there, too.

D'Lish will also be hosting a winter farmer's market at the store on the third Saturday of each month. The first one is November 15th. Many of the farmers and vendors will be in the store during these events to chat about their products.

And, I just had to share, I stopped by D'Lish last week and bought a bag of killer chocolate-covered toffees from Sweet Goddess Chocolates based in Savage, MN. I brought them to my in-laws for Yom Kippur. My mother-in-law tucked them off to the side, hoping no one would eat them and they could keep leftovers. My uncle showed me that he had stashed a couple into a napkin to take on his way out. Seriously, they're that good!
