If you’re anything like me, your turkey carcass is still stuffed under foil in the fridge, sundry leftovers are still knocking around in their plastic homes, and you’re about as interested in eating a big meal as the man on the moon. So, do the next best thing: drink! But don’t just imbibe, learn something too:

Bradstreet Craftshouse
is offering a series of courses, the first of which is “Mixology: Cocktail Basics.” The class will introduce guests to the history of the cocktail, teach you how to mix memorable cocktails at home and reveal the origins of your favorite spirits. Saturday, December 5, 3-5 p.m.

Bradstreet's mixologists will explain basic bar gear: shaker, muddler, strainer, juicer, zester, jigger and you’ll discover the subtle and necessary steps to make the perfect cocktail. You’ll also be introduced to the science of fermentation and distillation and learn how they create a diversity of spirits. Carefully selected samples of gin, rum and whiskey from Bradstreet’s exceptional collection will be offered for tasting.

The second Mixology session will be held on Saturday, January 30, 3-5pm. Guests will learn about liquors, syrups, garnishing and cocktail showmanship.

The third Mixology session on Saturday, February 27, 3-5pm, will explore bitters and how to make your own flavors, plus proper techniques for mixing and blending. You’ll also have the chance to create your own recipe and discover formulas.

$45 per person in advance; $55 at the door, subject to availability. Price includes historic punch, spirit samples, snacks and instruction by Bradstreet's award-winning mixologists. Menu items and full bar service available at an additional charge after the event.

For those of you who are interested, Studio Bricolage is a creative playground for adults. We host First Friday events on the first Friday of each month (January 8: Let's Get Small, February 5: Wireless Rube Goldberg). Mike Levad, one of our members likes cocktails and suggested we have a class to learn more. Steve Jevning, Studio Bricolage's fearless leader, approached Bradstreet and voila, the three part series of classes was created. Hope to see you there. It's a guaranteed good time.
