On December 15, 1974, Mel Brooks proved his worth as a comedic genius yet again with the comedy film
Young Frankenstein. Putting a clever twist on the classic Mary Shelley novel, Brooks transformed the story from frightening to amusing. Now, a couple decades later, Brooks has taken the tale one step further and put it on stage as a Broadway musical. The tale follows Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronkensteen”), the grandson of deranged scientist Victor Von Frankentstein. Frederick, an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor, inherits a castle and laboratory in Transylvania and finds his life swiftly turned upside-down as he partners with sexy lab assistant Inga and the odd looking Igor (pronounced “Eye-gor”). Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Frederick reanimates the dead but causes quite a ruckus doing so. Roger Bart (known for his role as Carmen Ghia in

You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown) plays Frankenstein, and together with the rest of the cast brings the musical to life with catchy tunes like “The Transylvania Mania” and the unforgettable cover of Irving Berlin’s “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”
