A Night With the Purple Ones
By Scottie B. Tuska 6/25/09 5:00 PM

Purple Rain was and still is the artist currently known as Prince’s masterpiece. The movie was perfect for the early MTV-generation. As a film wrapped around music videos, the soundtrack was always the centerpiece.

Now you and a few hundred of your closest friends can get those frilly purple suits out of the closest, dust off the mothballs and see if you are the Purple One. For one night only the club formerly known as The Depot will host the Purple Rain Sing-Along and Costume Contest.

After you’ve shown off you’re best impersonations of Apollonia or The Kid, sit back and watch the film in its entirety. Not only do you get to watch the greatest film to ever feature a Twin Cites music icon, but you also get to sing out lout. I bet you didn’t get to that on that date at the drive-in back in the summer of 1984. This time you don’t even need to know all the words. The friendly folks putting on this event will provide you with lyric sheets, though your neighbor wearing a replica Prince wig may look down upon your lack of Purple Rain knowledge.
