Five Observations From a Curmudgeon

If you don't have anything nice to say then don't... Yeah, I know the saying, but when I went to re-cap my weekend, this is what came out, so I'm hoping for a pass from the attitude police.

- I hadn’t been to the CC Club in quite some time, and yet somehow managed to go twice in one weekend. Every time I go, the only thing that changes about that place is the type of clothes the post-college hipsters are wearing. On that front, skinny jeans and bicycle bags seem to have officially replaced neck scarves and white belts. I wonder if there’s a hipster website somewhere that recently updated this information.

- Having played semi-pro football for the last seven years, I decided to hang up the cleats this summer. But, when the kicker for the St Paul Pioneers was unable to attend last Saturday’s game, they asked me to fill in for him. This led to me attempting a 53-yard field goal at the end of the first half. As the ball sailed through the air on a trajectory that was obviously short, I realized that the problem wasn’t the 53 yards between me and the field goal posts, but the 32 years between me and the day I was born. Getting old can be a real bummer.

- I really like Moto-I, especially their rooftop, but the service up there is atrocious. The girls that work there are all really nice, but it takes forevvvvvvvvver to order and receive a drink. Whether it’s a staffing or logistics issue (there’s no bar on the roof and the servers have to go down a level), something has to change if they want people to come back for a second visit.

- The U.S. Soccer team played in a big game on Sunday. They lost 3-2 to Brazil in the final of the Confederations Cup. This result excited and/or dismayed many people. Personally, I was really into the game, and came away pretty frustrated that our country’s squad couldn’t hold onto a 2-0 lead. Then I realized that up until two weeks ago, I’d never even heard of the Confederations Cup. I think I liked my life better that way.

- It’s tough to beat the Bulldog NE if you’re looking for a place to grab a drink and meet someone of the opposite sex that’s better looking than you.
