Brick By Brick @ Landmark Center

No longer shall the domes of St. Paul go unnoticed and unappreciated. And perfect timing, because we were getting bored with the dinosaurs and space station featured at Lego Land at MOA. The domes of the State Capitol building and the Cathedral of St. Paul feed our Lego fix.

One of 14 Lego Ambassadors in the U.S., Roy Cook, was charged with recreating the structures both originally built around the turn of the 20th Century. While he managed to make impressive replicas with stubbornly rectangular blocks, the plastic of Legos just don’t quite do justice to the St. Cloud granite used to build the exterior of the Cathedral and the foundation and steps of the Capitol building.

Cook used roughly 70,000 individual Legos for the Capitol and 50,000 for the Cathedral and spent 100 hours on each, not including planning time.

The replicas have been on display at various locations since May, but this display at the Landmark Center shows the two together.
